I had an inspector check out a model home I’m buying in Houston, TX. They reported I that when they ran any hot water in the house, there was a strong rotten egg smell….suggested the hot water heater needed to be flushed good. What would cause this and will flushing take care of it or should I ask builder for a new hot water heater?

The cause of the smell is the anode rod in the water heater. In most cases it can be fixed by replacing the anode rod with a different material.Scott
