I had an inspector check out a model home I’m buying in Houston, TX. They reported I that when they ran any hot water in the house, there was a strong rotten egg smell….suggested the hot water heater needed to be flushed good. What would cause this and will flushing take care of it or should I ask builder for a new hot water heater?
Kelli, The cause of the smell is the anode rod in the water heater. In most cases it can be fixed by replacing the anode rod with a different material.
