hot water tank!!

i have a 42 gal. hot water tank. i can turn on the hot water from anywhere in the house and the hot water will run good for about 3-4 min.(i cant even fill up the bathtub). then the water starts to run cold and i can turn it off wait 20 min. turn on hot water again and ill have hot water for another 3-4 please help if can . thanks [email protected]
