I just added a laundry room sink and when the hot water is turned on mid flow level, the pipes moan and groan until the faucet is opened all the way or completly shut. I recently had an expansion tank added to the hot water heater and thought that would take care of it. But the problem still exists. Why does this problem exist and what would be the easiest way to overcome?

Replace the washer on the hot water side of the faucet END OF PROBLEM
