trying to determine when a toilet was put in. the home is 100+ years old. the toilet has the imprint of “4/8/01 – #642, CRANE” on the underside of the tank top. I am Real estate broker and per town regulations if this was put in after 1985 – it must be taken out. Heirs of home feel toilet was there for 40-55 years. can anybody help us…………thanks

Usually the date is inside the tank, so you if you put a new lid on, the date of the toilet is not affected. look in the tank. If you can’t see a date, and you think the lid is original, it is probably the correct date. there is a big difference between 1901 products and 1985.

Real old toilets have four bolt holes in the bottom, pre 1960 at least.
