I have a 50 gallon Lochinvar. The hot water heater takes too long to cycle. If no hot water has been used for a while, like the morning, the water might not be very hot. But after using some it will heat up just fine. The heater is 1 year old. Is there an adjustment or setting?

It sounds like the thermostat/gas valve is sticking in the OFF condition, but only when the water cools down slowly. This is not uncommon. If the heater is less than a year old the valve will be covered by the warranty. Contact the seller or manufacturer.
