My house is 6 yrs. old, my water heater is also 6 yrs. My question is, when ever i go in the basement, (Usually daily), there is water on the floor, coming from the safety valve on top of the heater. It lets out about a gallon of water than stops. I noticed late at night my water pressure coming in to the house is very high. I once had a whole house water filter blow it’s top from the pressure. I have a municipal water supply. What can I do to fix this problem?

You need to install a pressure reducing valve on the water main. This should cost you between 2-3 hundred, labor and material.

When you install the pressure reducing valve, you should also install a cushion tank on the cold water system to absorb the pressure build up from heating the water. Otherwise expansion pressure will also cause the relief valve to release water periodically.
