: What type of toilet bowl cleaning products can I safely use with a septic tank?June, the Small Flows Clearinghouse Newsletter had an article last year describing an experiment on the impact of shock loading large quantities of various cleaning products on the effluent quality from septic tanks. The experimenters flushed entire containers of cleaning products, one at a time, into several systems, and found no significant impact on treatment performance. I dont recommend that you flush large amounts of the cleaning products available, but as with everything else in life, practice moderation in all things. Avoid the products that are placed in the reservoirs of toilets that turn the water blue, or are applied to the septic tank with each flush. JWA
