My kitchen sink has a water hammer problem but when the water is turned on vice off. The rest of the house has no problem with this. The kitchen is at the other end of the house from the water inlet from the street. The house is only four years old but I dont know if the previous owners had this problem.
One or two clunks often means a loose pipe in the wall somewhere. Strap it or use that foam in a can to secure the pipe. (I know it might be hard to find where the pipe is loose…Maybe you can hear where it is.) Also, maybe air chambers would help If water pressure is too high (80 psi), you could install a pressure regulator. If a machine gun type hammer, think loose bibb washer in the faucet or at one of its cut-off valves.
