Help! I have noticed the ceiling (plaster) was damp and spotty in the room downstares and to the right of the upstaires bathroom (has been for sometime). It has now cracked through in one of the spots and is a constant drip. I shut off all the water supply to the upstares last night. The drip did stop. All the water is out of the toilet and I have turned the water back on to the upstaires. I did keep the water to the toilet shut off. After running sink and shower I see the leak has not resumed. I am sure this is a toilet leak from underneeth. What should I do? This is an old house and the floor is very uneven around the bowl. It must have been wet as some of the tiles are loose. Is it a seal that I can fix? What holds the bowl to the floor? I see the 2 hand bolts…anything else have to be disconnected? Could really use some help. Thanks, DD

To replace the seal… Usually just turn the water off and disconnect the supply line to the tank. Remove the two attaching bolts and lift the toilet up. Clean the surfaces and install a new wax seal. If nothing goes wrong, you could be done in 20 minutes. If everything goes wrong, you might not be done in three days.Heres a web site with more detail: http://www.toiletology.com/wax-ring.shtml
