anode rod and toilet

my hot water smells bad. i was told it was the anode rod. how do i change it. do i have to drain and disconnect the hot water heater? second problem is. when i use my washer my toilet wont flush and or backs up. if i let it set after washer is done it goes back to normal like nothing is wrong. i have a well and septic. what can i do? i hooked up my washer and dryer myself. there were no hook ups. i live in a trailer. so i think i may have done something wrong. please help i have to do most things for myself i havent got much money is why. and i am not scared to tackle most any problems. my family says i am a master at fixing things. no way i just try and ask ? if i dont know. so can someone please help me. thanks a million to those who can help me.
