Im doing a science project, using pvc pipes. Im butting the same amount of water in each one, but the pipes are going to be different widths. Which one will have the most pressure, the widdest, or the thinest

Water pressure is only determined by the height of the water. Which one do you think will give you the most height?

It may seem illogical but a soda straw sized pipe filled with water will have the same pressure as a 24 cooling tower pipe. The difference is that the larger one will have more force due to its larger size.: Im doing a science project, using pvc pipes. Which one will have the most pressure, the widdest, or the thinestIf your putting the same amount of water in each the thinner one will have a higher P.S.I. due to a higher head of water. sounds like a trick question because you say the same amount of water(over all volume is the same) not head, so you would have more head in the thinner pipe. the total force would be equal.

Just saying it another way… A column of water exerts a pressure of .434 pounds per square inch for every foot of height, regardless of diameter.So a column 100 feet high would have a pressure of about 43 pounds per square inch. But that would have to be measured with a pressure gauge. The total weight of the water would be psi times the area of the column, and could be measured with a bathroom scale.
