My wife and I are building our dream home and are definately going to spend the rest of our lives in that home. We are 50 and in excellant health. We want products that will last, but we dont want to be foolish either. Sears offers a lifetime warranty on a $450 hot water heater by Kenmore. It seems like a worthwhile investment to me. What do you think? The lifetime is on tank and parts, but not labor. Assume we will be in the house for 30 years.

Usually the only difference between a long waranty heater and a standard one is the long warranty model will have two anode rods instead of one. Consider that if you maintain a hot water heater properly by flushing it and also by checking the anode rod it will likely last a lifetime in any case. See link below.
