        hi, the hot water tank in my moms house , when we turn the cold water faucet on, the water comes out hot, or at least warm, even in the winter.. what could be the problem??? do you think we have to replace the tank, or could we fix whats wrong. is this a common problem??? an how can this situaTION BE avoided???. or is this a built in terminal malfunction??? thanks in advance!!!

          : hi, the hot water tank in my moms house , when we turn the cold water faucet on, the water comes out hot, or at least warm, even in the winter.. what could be the problem??? do you think we have to replace the tank, or could we fix whats wrong. is this a common problem??? an how can this situaTION BE avoided???. or is this a built in terminal malfunction??? thanks in advance!!!you dont state whether or not it becomes cold after running a little? there are any number of scenarios that could allow this; -a cross connection between hot and cold lines somewhere in system. -if the heater is at a lower level than the pipeing and does not have a heat trap on cold supply side line, then the heat can travel up the cold line. -somewhere in the pipeing a hot line and cold line are too close side by side. -dip tube on cold supply side has come off or deteriorated.
