Over the past several months, Ive noticed a decrease in the amount of hot water – Ive heard that hot water tanks need to be bled now and then and I was wondering how to do that. Thank you.

I have been in the plumbing business for 50 years and have never heard of bleeding a water heater, nor have I ever done it. Besides, I have no idea how to do it, since there is nothing to bleed out of it. You may be referring to periodically draining some water out of the bottom of it to remove sediment. If you do this, your heater may last 84 to 96 months instead of the normal 7 or 8 years. In other words, it is usually just busy work.: Over the past several months, Ive noticed a decrease in the amount of hot water – Ive heard that hot water tanks need to be bled now and then and I was wondering how to do that.
