: could anyone tell me the proper temp. setting on a state water heater. single element. residential.recommended by most health depts 120-125Ftime to produce 2nd & 3rd degree burns: 120 F—more than five minutes 130 F—about 30 seconds 140 F—less than 5 seconds 150 F—about 1 1/2 seconds 160 F—about !/2 second
I never found the temp settings on an electric thermostat to be accurate and therefore checked water temp at the closest faucet. I set water heater temps between 135 and 145 F. I got not enough hot water complaints when I set temps down around 120 degrees as blm189 said is often recommended. This could be just because water heaters are sized smaller here in San Antonio, I dont know.
