            I never found the temp settings on an electric thermostat to be accurate and therefore checked water temp at the closest faucet. I set water heater temps between 135 and 145 F. I got not enough hot water complaints when I set temps down around 120 degrees as blm189 said is often recommended. This could be just because water heaters are sized smaller here in San Antonio, I dont know.
