toilet bubbling and leaking at base

In an older home.. the toilet after flushing is at a low level in the bowl and bubble when you flush it…while having to hold the handle down until water goes down and when used frequently leaks at the base PLEASE HELP

Geneva: Sounds as if your sewer line is stopped up between the house and street. Look on the bulletun board for a posting below yours by DUFFY. He described same problem, read my reply to him it addresses the problem youve described.
