Ive just bought my first house and the gas company wants to charge me 75.00 to light my gas water heater and furnace. The only gas appliances Ive ever used before was a stove. Are these things easy to light, or is it dangerous and should i leave it to the gas company? Somehow this seems like a lot of money for a small job. Thanks for your help.

It is easy and the directions are usually on the heater and furnace. Some times you have to hold the gas valves in the light position for a long time to let the air out of the gas pipe. It is probably a good thing to know how to light a pilot yourself, and it is not dangerous if you follow the directions.
