The rotor problem

I have an Inglis washing machine that suddenly stopped working properly; the center rod of the bowl in which you place your clothes, does spin, but does not make the washing hands turn anymore, seems like the rod is worn out. Id like to get the washing hands out, but cannot get the cap out. I tried unscrewing it, pulling it up, neither works. Got any ideas?
