In our laundry area in the basement of a duplex house, we have a small drain opening in the middle of the floor that seems to be the source of an unpleasant odor. According to the landlord, this is a problem with drainage (likely sewage) backing up and not draining properly. His solution is to pour water down the drain once daily to keep things moving. This helps, but does not eliminate the smell and is also a bit of a pain in the ass. I like girls and dont want them to be scared off by this smell (my bedroom is conveniently located right next to this laundering area.
