I have a 5 year old 65 gal Bradford White water heater that has been reliable and trouble free – never had problems running out of hot water with 4 people in the house.

Over the last two days, although the water is hot, its run out even before one shower is done.

Are the heating elements failing or could it be something else? If it’s the elements, considering I’m a handy homeowner, it this I repair I could tackle?

It could be the thermostat(s), the dip tube, or the element(s). You should determine which before starting to change anything.
