My wife is being driven to distraction by the noise (banging) that is heard when the hot water pipes expand while running the dishwasher, taking a shower etc. I have searched the hardware stores for a product that would insulate the basement joists from the pipes or for some other product that addresses the problem. Is there such a product on the market or should I buy the foam pipe insulation and install a short segment around the pipes where they hang from the joists? The pipes are suspended by U shaped copper wire and are pretty snug against the joist. Any ideas or lead on a product would be helpful.
        Thanks,
        Jim Howerton

Have someone install an expansion joint to take up for this expansion and contraction
