I just adjusted my 50 gal water heater to a slightly higher setting. I notice a similiar looking “entry” plate in the lower part of the housing. Is this another temp adjustment that I should also adjust or will the upper one do it?

The lower one is the one that actually establishes the tank temperature. The upper one is just there to take over when the tank is running out of hot water. Turn the upper one back down to it original setting and turn up the lower one.
