I am removing an old tiled shower with fiberglass? shower pan. I have removed everything but the pan drain appears to be soldered to the sewer line with lead? I have all the edges of the pan loose but don’t know how to remove the lead collar. I was told heat it. What would you recommend? If heat is the answer should I use a heat gun or direct flame?

Hi Jennifer: I’ve never been one to spend too much time during a demolition, so what I would do is get hold of a sawzall(reciprocating saw) with metal blades, and just go to town on that shower pan, girl! Chances are, you may have to redo the shower drain and p-trap anyways , so you don’t have to be too delicate around the shower drain. Hope this helps.
