Could the plumber’s putty be used to seal threaded brass connections for cold water supply line, instead of using the pipe joint compound or Teflon tape? If not, what implications would this have down the road if done?
I don’t think it would provide a good seal. As you screw the pipe, the putty will come out of the threads. Putty is too dry/grainy for this application.
I can’t imagine why you would ask – teflon tape costs less than $1 a roll.
If you’ve already done it and it’s working, I can’t say how long it will last – but it should not cause any permanent damage.
