: what is the proper mantaince required for : septic tank and drainfields ?I have been in a septic tank house since 1982. It has never had a problem. It is inspected every 3 years for build up (subdivision requirement) and been pumped twice in 17 years.Rules – no chlorine bleach no garbage disposal no chemicals, paint cleanup, household cleaners, etc down the drain. We had a carpet shampoo guy dump his water in our toilet. Hell never clean my carpets again.Supposedly yeast down the drain every month helps feed the organisms that keep the tank functioning but regular human waste does the job naturally.Remember – a straight flush beats a full house every time.
