Im renovating bathroom (wife pregnant!). Ive removed the existing vinyl floor covering. I have 3/4 plywood floor. I want to install ceramic tile. Removed toilet – the toilet closet flange is flush with the current floor, secured with screws. Can I (should I?) pry the flange up from the floor so I can get tile under flange? Is 3/4 plywood sturdy enough for tile or should I put in some additional support such as cement backerboard? In that case, Id need to raise the flange even more to allow for backerboard and tile. Is that possible? Your thoughts would be really appreciated.
