Jim: This is a very simple task. I assume you have a standard double kitchen sink, left side, right side? If so and one side drain when the other does not, the problem is obviously directly under the sink in the pipes leaving the disposal. In the most standard configuration the drain from one sink comes over to meet the drain pipe which is exiting the disposal. Right at that intersection is a piece called a diverter which directs water from both sides into the same common pipe just above the trap. The problem is most likely at the diverter. Just disassemble the pipes at that spot and check for stoppage. Remove the 8 lbs of potatoe peelings you crammed down the disposal, check for good water flow, put pipes back together.Remember its not so much what you put down your disposal rather how much goes in at one time!!! Put all peelings in the trash not disposal in the future. What is the busiest day of the year for our company each and every year? The friday following Thanksgiving. Think about it!!: put potato peelings in disposal and plugged it. how do you get it to drain again. when the disposal is turned on the water in the sink will whirl around but not drain.
