Hot Water Heating make up water

My son has old home with cast iron hot water radiator system. Has new boiler–about 10 yrs old that is.
Two Questions:
1. How do you replenish water in system–some water hammer starting.

2. Boiler has domestic water hook up installed but is isolated–running on old gas water heater–should he swap over to boiler?

You DON’T they sell an automatic water feeder combination pressure relief valve factory set 12 PSI FEED and 30# relief BUT you can raise the feed pressure to 15# if needed

2. Boiler has domestic water hook up installed but is isolated–running on old gas water heater–should he swap over to boiler?

Not necessary as during the warmer months WHY heat a BIG boiler just for domestic H/W?
