My fater-in-law is adding a bathroom that is very far from his hot water heater. In order to cut down on the delay for hot water, he is thinking of placing a small (2 or 3 gallon) heater in this room that is supplied by the main water heater. In other words, he is placing the heaters in series. Is this alright and will it work?

There is a second option. A circulated hot water line.
