We are installing a shower basin on a concrete floor. We want to know what the recommended material is for leveling/supporting the basin. How do we determine the length of the drain pipe so that the flange fittings will be the right height? Thanks for your assistance.

mortar is the prefered material for setting a shower pan, before it dries use a level to level it.as for the pipe it can be tricky, without seeing the shower i cant be much help. in some cases a mudset shower drain is the way to go they are adjustable,if you ask your local hardware store or even call a plumber some of us give free advice over the phone.
