A warning on the pedastal sinks for sale at Home Depot said that pedastal sinks require special plumbing techniques and to contact a plumber. What do I (or rather my husband) need to know as amateur remodelers/plumbers to install a pedastal sink?

What do I (or rather my husband) need to know as amateur remodelers/plumbers to install a pedastal sink?What you need to know is .If the pedestal is not supported properly it WILL with out any doubt put excessive strain on not only the water supply piping BUT on the waste fittings also.Pedestal sinks are heavy and can cause death ( does happen) especially to children who happen to be crushed under it. There is a mounting bracket and certain ways of anchoring it PROPERLY to a tile wall. speedy conections will not give the ridgid support needed to keep this thing from shifting. Years ago the Pedestal sinks and bases holding them were of heavy cast Iron and the bases were also anchored to the floor. Today most of the cheaper pedestal sinks are made of vitrous china which doesnt have mass required to hold this thing in place. A lot of people especialy kids and older folks get hurt when the sink and or pedestal comes down on them. Have fun installing it. It should be a little bit of a challange. Respectifully Sylvan
