A few days ago, I had to re-light the pilot on my water heater. Tonight, I noticed crackling & snapping noises coming from the heater, and the flame isn’t steady.
What might this be? The water heater is only a few months old and these are the first problems we’ve had.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Have an experienced gas service person check the burner manifold. Snapping and cracking is a symptom of burning within a burner. the gas pressure may have dropped due to restriction of some other cause.
