2 new heaters, home and rental property. Water smells like sulfer and tub is brown after eaCh bath. Installer said to remove a part. Maker said no, dont, but pour in a gallon of bleach. That doesnt last long and I dont want to bathe in bleach water. Renter and I furious. What to do??

Chlorine bleach would kill the bacteria…they might come back. Replacing the anode with an aluminum anode would probably work…or removal of the anode. The water heater wont last as long without an anode.Lots of information about water heater problems in the water heater section of my website.Bill Lund

What to do??If you are on a well and pump water supply, sometimes the bladder in the pressure tank will rupture and cause the smell you refer to. Cure is to replace the pressure tank. The only way to test that I know of is to isolate (disconnect) the pressure tank and run water both hot and cold for several minutes to see if problem clears up. Good luck.
