: I have a State Industries model #CD5 82 20RTI electric water heater that wont heat up at all. Is there some way I could diagnose the probelm or check the controls or thermostats : I need help! Please!!First thing to do is look for a red button on the top thermostat. It is a circuit breaker and if it is popped out you can push it in to reset it.If the water in the water heater is cold then check the top thermostat to see if it is conducting electricity to the top heating element. If it is not then it is bad. Replace both the top and the bottom thermostats if either thermostat is bad.If pushing the button works it might indicate a bad thermostat and once the water gets hot again it will trip again.Lots of information about water heaters on my website.Hope this helps.Bill Lund
