I have two 5500 watt, 52 gallon water heaters which werer installed in a new house about 12 years ago. On a fairly frequent, though apparently random basis, either one of the heaters will start heating until the high temp switch cuts the unit off. I can push the restart button after the heater cools off and it will operate ok until it does it overheats again. A plumber checked out the thermostats a proclaimed them ok. Usually when I have one overheat, there will be a cluster of 3 to 7 events within a week, and then nothing for a month or so. Any Ideas?
