Sewer backed up in basement and is fixed now, but cannot get sewage smell out of carpet. I steam cleaned twice already. Carpet looks clean and I assume stench is in padding. Any suggestions for getting rid of smell?

The only way to get rid of it is to replace all underlay and carpet. One of my customers had the same problem, removed and cleaned carpet, replaced underlay. The problem came back. Make your wife happy and buy her some new stuff.

Make your wife happy and buy her some new stuff.I agree with mossy……Remove the carpet and underlay….not only does it smell it can, in some situations, become a major heath hazzard
