My plumber wants to use a system by Vanguard in which every fixture has its own supply at a manifold in the basement.1. Doesnt this add a lot to the material cost to have all this extra tubing? Plus what about having to insulate all the extra hot water lines?2. Wouldnt it make more sense to have the shut off near the fixture rather than at the manifold in the basement?3. He says I wont have to wait as long for hot water. Will this system really be that much faster? Im building a ranch style house and the two areas that will need hot water are seperated by about 80 feet. Wouldnt it make more sense to just have a water heater on each side of the house?

Bob, There are many ways to skin a cat. The system he has recommended is used in Europe. Smaller bore piping is used which reduces dead leg water, Yes there are for and against for every system. Have you considered the extra heater cost and standby losses? Can you ask him for names of people who have it installed and ask their opinion? The final choice is yours and you need to satisfy yourself that you have the right system. If it wasnt for adventurous people we wouldnt have phones or electricity. Grahame
