humming in water pipes

I rent a duplex and for a couple of months now, my water pipes have been humming on occasion. It stops when I turn on faucets in the bathroom, or flush the toilets. It is not constant, but on and off throughout the day. What are some possible causes for this noise and it is a serious problem that needs immediate attention?

It sounds like you may need to take a look at your balltaps W.C and Header tank etc often just rewashering these can improve this Trombone effect.
