Durring mid cycle our washing machine loses about half of the water. Sometimes this causes the water to refill, and sometimes the water level just stays low, and the clothes wash with not enuf water. Is this a machine malfunction, or plumbing? Any advice?

Make sure the waste hose sits above the level of the machine, it sounds like the machine is setting up a syphone.
