My pilot light keeps blowing out when the burner shuts off after heating the water. I have to relit the pilot every time I use the hot water. I have replaced the thermocouple and it still does not solve the problem. I can lit the pilot no problem and turn the burner on and have hot water but when the burner kicks off, POOF, there goes the pilot lit out. Can I have the gas company come look at it? I dont think it needs replacing just adjusted. Help soon because I have to get up every morning at 4AM to have a hot shower when I get up at 6PM. Im losing sleep and I dont want to buy another tank unless I really have too. Thanks!

Thanks!ED it sounds like maybe the pilot light is too low or dirty you could try tapping on the pilot assembly with a screw driver to knock the ash build up off and see if pilot flame is higher then. or it could be that the gas pressure is too high and the burner flame sucks the pilot out when burner goes off. gas pres. is not adj. on hot water tanks. you might have to change the gas valve. either that or get use to cold showers. brrrrrrr.

You might check the flue for obstructions. If the draft is inadequate or non-existent, then the exhaust gases can stay in the heater and when the burner goes out the induced draft ends and there is not enough oxygen to sustain the pilot.: My pilot light keeps blowing out when the burner shuts off after heating the water. : My pilot light keeps blowing outThe problem is most likely thermocouple losing sight of pilot. Check pilot size, shape, and stability. It should strike the thermocouple only on the tip (hot junction), that is the last 1/2 to 3/8 of the thermocouple. If the pilot is too small, it could be a dirty oriface, or the pilot is adjusted to be too small. If the thermocouple does not sit solidly in the flame, the pilot shaping piece may need adj. or the thermocouple itself. BEWARE: Flame detectors must ONLY prove pilots that are properly positioned to light the main flame. A draft diverter should prevent downdraft from blowing out the pilot, check the flue for clogs or improperly positioned diverter flap.
