Garbage Disposal not working; power on, but no turning?

Kitchen Aid garbage disposal wont turn when we turn it on. I can hear the power in the unit, but there is no attempt to trying to turn. I dont have the jam wrench that the mfg. instructions recommends. Does anyone else have any ideas?
