i have a new hot water heater that had the pilot go out just today- i relit the pilot and in a matter of a few hours the water heater was pouring water from the pressure relief valve–also a water meter was installed nearby the water heater–approx. 20-25 pipe feet from the water heater-if this meter has a check valve or a water backflow prevention valve of some sort–what can i do to alleviate this problem–the water heater has coexisted with the meter for at least 3-4 months without a problem until now—what can i do? thanks for your helpps -i really dont know much about this sort of thing–i got most of my info while searching on the net for about 30 minutes or so –so type slowly so i can understand what you are saying –:-) thanks

Install an expansion tank on the hot water tank tank, this should take care of your troubles….Lou
