Outside drain pipe for Hot Water heater is constantly dripping water. Seems to be an extreme amount. Plumber replaced TPR valve about 4-6 mths ago. Is this normal? Should it drain constantly? Thanks.

Dear Becky: It is quite normal for the TPRV to drip on your HWS. The amount can vary but it can generally be approximatley 5 litres per day depending on the heating cycle. However if you feel that it is leaking to much it may be that your incomming cold water pressure is exceeding the limits of your TPRV (80% of relief rating). I suggest you have your plumber check the inlet pressure to the HWS and if it exceeds this limit fit a pressure limiting valve to the cold water inlet. In Australia it is also recommended to fit a cold water expansion valve on the cold water inlet to the HWS. Hope this helps you,David Sharp Newcastle Gas : Outside drain pipe for Hot Water heater is constantly dripping water. Seems to be an extreme amount. Plumber replaced TPR valve about 4-6 mths ago.
