Due to a shortage in hot water on a 5 yr. old residential gas water heater, I am suspecting the dip tube needs replacement. Is this an easy task? Instruction? What are some problems I may encounter. Thnx in advance!
First thing is get model and serial number off water heater and either have plumbing supply house where it was bought call the manufacturer or you do it. There is a problem with dip tubes made by a sub-contractor that makes dip tubes for a ton of companies. They are all disintigrating. There has been a recall and you can get a free tube from them if you have one of the affected tubes. Changing it is a matter of removing the cold water pipe from the top of the heater and reaching down with a finger and pulling the tube up. It just sits in there as it is beveled at the top and cant go anywhere except up.
