Just installed a Richmond 8yr self-clean gas water heater. The cold inlet pipe gets almost as hot as the hot outlet pipe. Is this normal? Is it convected from inside the tank, or could it be radiated from the smokestack? Would insulation be appropriate? Please reply by emai if possible.
