Look for a copy of : Flushed with Pride. It is the story of Sir Thomas Crapper, the plumber given the credit for perfecting the flushing water closet. He was a plumber from London last century. The book may be hard to locate. It has history of various designs. He was knighted for the contribution he made to plumbing. I remember as an apprentice removing many old suites with Crapper and Co London stamped on the cistern. Good luck with the research.: : I am doing research on the toilet. More info. Flushed with Pride is reprinted. ISBN 1-85145-396-2 Also read Thunder, Flush and Thomas Crapper ISBN 1-85479-245-8 (hardback) ISBN 1-85479-250-4 (paperback). Go to your local library, quote these numbers, they can locate the publisher and price. Write a great thesis and may you get honours.
