Hi, I’m a third year Materials engineering student at Birmingham University in the UK.

I am currently working on a project which involves the redesigning of the flushing mechanism within a toilet tank, so that it may be operated easily be a push button. the push button should be such that it requires very little force to operate, eg. for ease of use by elderly.

I wonder if you may be able to assist me with my research, as to where I might find any relevant inofrmation on toilet flushing mechanism design, and legislation…

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

        Regards,

        Dan

There are already some gravity, (and most pressure assisted), tanks that use a push button on the top of the tank. Push buttons on the side of the tank required more force than you are referring to in order to overcome the mechanical resistance of the various moving parts.
