We just bought a house with radiators. We cant seem to figure out how to use the numbered pressure release knobs on the side. We know its to turn up or down the heat on a paricular radiator. Is one more heat or less heat. more steam comes out of it a 8 or 10. Where can we find out more about this? some are turned with a penny and seem to be broken because the numbers spin around and you cant tell what number its really on. Others are a numbered plasic knob on the bottom.

The numbers indicate how fast the air will be vented from the radiators. Normally, those closest to the boiler will be set to low numbers and the further away the radiators are, the higher the number. The reason is that the furthest radiators also have to vent the air from the mains and in order for all the areas to heat equally, the closest ones are slowed down to allow the others to catch up.: We just bought a house with radiators.
