Water Pressure?? Pipe Noise??

Recently our pipes started moaning and vibrating when we would flush a toilet. It then started to do it anytime water was turned on and off from any source in the home. We had a plumber come out and he checked the water pressure and said it was at 50psi and changed it to 80psi. He then said that there was nothing else wrong and left. The day after I noticed a upstairs toilet that was slowly leaking, so I changed the flapper and that seemed to fix the leak. Also, the noise in the pipes stopped as well. Question 1: What is the normal water pressure for a home? Question 2: What was causing the noise in the pipes?Thanks for your help,Brian

Surging pressure out of nowhere, any time we turn on water. And the toilets seem to be running all the time, as if the pressure is causing a tiny bit of water to continue to flow through. I called a plumber out and he checked the pressure – said it was 70 psi, which was at the high end of the range, but still OK. Of course the day he came out the surging thing stopped happening, so he wasnt able to tell me much. He said a small piece of dirt may have gotten stuck in the pressure regulator, but didnt want to take it apart and find out. Any suggestions? I hate to call someone else to come look at it and pay another $100 bucks for nothing!
