I have a claw foot tub with Chicago faucets that has the shower head which comes up from the faucet and attaches to the wall and has the porcelan white sunflower looking shower head. the shower adapter has stripped and broken and the plumber needs to replace the entire unit. These items are expensive and range in prices. This is an insurance thing, so cost I guess is not the issue. My question, is do the name brands make a big difference in these tub faucets. The new ones do not seem to be as well made, but I want to make sure I get at least the same quality. Anyone know anything about the different name brands of faucets for the claw tubs? Which to buy or comparisons? Any comments appreciated!

One of the joys of footed tubs is that every model in every brand seems to be subtly different from every other – the feet fit only the specific tub they were designed for. I have a PAW-footed tub – the paws fit into flanges on the sides of the tub, and I have yet to see anything like it.

I have a somewhat unusual footed tub (paws, not claws) that is worn to metal. As it will be the only tub or shower in the house, I will not have it epoxy- refinished, because Ill never be able to maintain that surface. Ive been trying to learn if it is possible to re-enamel a tub – grind off the old porcelain finish, apply the new, and fire it to get a genuine new porcelain surface. One place said they were experimenting with a process to do that, and everyone else does varying degrees of epoxy paint. Can a tub be re-fired after it has cooled down and sat for a hundred years, and if so, do you know anyone who still has a kiln large enough to do the job? (The new tubs I see are made in Portugal, and I doubt Ill be shipping mine quite that far.)

Very few people actually refinish tubs with true genuine porcelain, as you probably have found out, because the process is not economically feasable. Although their is a process called refinishing that I have been involved in for quiet some time and has proven superior to porcelain in its durability and cleanablity. Most people can not tell the difference between a refinished tub and a new one. Better yet my services are warranteed. The topcoats I use are not epoxy or urethane based. The topcoats I use are specifically designed to refinish porcelain tubs. A refinished tub should last you about 15 years if taken care of properly. Dallas, TX area. Matt

: I carry lots claw foot tubs and related items, antique tubs that is if you have any questions regarding tubs dont hasitate to contact me.I have a claw foot tub but instead of a rolled top edge. It is flat and squared off at the four corners. Instead of three holes for hot, cold, and overflow fixtures, it only has the overflow hole. The hot, cold and faucet come out of separate holes in the wall. I want to replace the fixtures and possibly add the old fashioned shower enclosure but I cannot find the old style fixtures with long faucet ( to reach inside tub). Any suggestions?

simple way to reduce water pressure into hot water tank without reducing h20 pressure to whole house: municiple pressure too high (110 psi+-).. excess pressure is pushing pop off valve open. No defect in hot water heater
